The link between the award winner and the institution must never be ideological, but it usually is. This is so ridiculous that even the Nobel Peace Award was given to Obama, who declared wars and did not stop the Afghanistan War, even though he could have. However, certifying defeats does not look good. Political and ideological interests are increasingly less hidden. What is absurd is so vast that some honours should be better classified as delinquents or swindlers. For instance, those scientists who publish more than 100 research articles a year deserve being convicted than receiving an award. They are swindlers because innovation is scarce and difficult, and innovative results cannot be obtained on a weekly basis. The “know-how” culture substitutes “know how to do”, and produces disposable outcomes. Another disturbing element is ideological fashions like feminism. Today’s inflation of awards for women is such that, a priori, one mistrusts any female award winner. There are no second-rate actors/actresses, film makers or intellectuals who have not been given an award to thank them for their services to “progressive” propaganda. How many awards are handed in Spain to intellectuals or artists who do not admit being socialists or separatists? Do not worry if you only remember Boadella; no, your memory is not failing you; there is no-one else. Now flaunting awards is of doubtful honour. This is not only a thing of national or regional governments, but also of the public university. They state that squandering on propaganda-type events that Nobel Prize winners are invited to stimulates research. Yet economically ill treating any researcher with commissions for services rendered all the time is shameful: they pay expenses out of their own money because payments for travel and expenses have not been updated for 25 years. This is apparently not the task of rectors, nor of anyone else. They squander expenses in doctors honoris causa propaganda who are doubtful scientists, such as economist Mariana Mazucatto, (MM), who defends the “Enterprising State” oxymoron, Agenda 2030 and climate change. She was named doctor honoris causa at my university in June 2023, and stated in an interview in the El País newspaper to be openly in favour of the Spanish socialist government on 21 July (2 days before General Elections) by affirming that: (i) VOX starting to govern is a huge problem. What the present government has done for Spain is extremely positive compared to what I see in other countries; (ii) the Spanish government’s moderate policies have impressed her (Sánchez has created 450,000 public jobs in 5 years and a public debt of 400,000 million euros; (iii) in the UK (where MM works), after Brexit there is no formula for what is public and what is private to work together in energy transition. But is there one in Spain? MM ignores the fact that the government fiscally attacks all (large, medium, small) private firms and wants them to close; (iv) the Spanish Recovery and Resilience Plan focuses mostly on R&D, according to MM, but the EU states that it does not know what the Spanish government has spent the money for this on; (v) Spain has a “solidarity” tax for wealth and taxes that has dropped from heaven and does not harm small firms, so MM says. However, does he Spanish Inland Revenue, which does not deflate income tax given inflation, not benefit from collecting more euros fallen from an inflationary heaven? And the taxes collected from large firms and banks, who will end up paying them? Citizens, naturally, because we always pay in the end; (vi) the extreme right is populist, according to MM talking about VOX. Why is it populist? Because it states that immigration must be legal. Because it accuses Europe of having no migratory policy, no energy policy, no security policy, no agricultural policy, no livestock policy, no defence policy. The EU is filled with incompetent politicians who are well-paid with our taxes. And giving subsidies and payments to all kinds of sectors so they vote for them, is that not populist? The public university cannot be an institution where honours are exchanged for socialist propaganda.

Cómo la universidad pública sirve al Gobierno.
